Odisha Congress Demands Amit Shah’s Resignation Over Remarks On Ambedkar

Bhubaneswar: Stepping up their attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on BR Ambedkar in Parliament, senior Congress leaders of Odisha on Monday demanded his resignation.

Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Congress MP from Koraput Saptagiri Ulaka said Shah must resign immediately and an tender an apology for ‘insulting’ Ambedkar.

Ulaka was joined by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ramachandra Kadam, former Odisha PCC president Prasad Harichandan, and Deputy CLP leader Ashok Das.

The Lok Sabha member further stated that Congress will hold a nationwide protest and organise demonstrations in every district across the country on Tuesday to intensify the demand for the resignation of Amit Shah.

The party will organise Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman March to district collectorates nationwide on Tuesday, he said, adding this is part of its protest demanding Shah’s resignation over his remarks on Ambedkar during a Constitution debate in the Rajya Sabha.

A petition seeking Shah’s resignation would be submitted to President Droupadi Murmu through district collectors, Ulaka said.

Claiming that Shah’s remarks belittled Ambedkar and deeply hurt those upholding constitutional values, the Congress MP said despite this, neither Shah, the Prime Minister nor the BJP has expressed regret. Instead, they provocatively defended their stance.

Shah’s remarks and BJP leaders’ reaction had only exposed their “anti-dalit, anti-tribal and anti-constitution” mindset, the Congress leader claimed.
