Bhubaneswar: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge will address a public meeting, Odisha Bachao Samavesh, being organised by the party on Monday, targeting the alleged misrule of the BJD government.

Speaking to the media, OPCC president Sarat Pattanayak on Sunday said that Kharge will arrive in Bhubaneswar at 11.45 am and then proceed to the meeting venue, Lower PMG, in a rally. “The event will begin at noon tomorrow. People from panchayat, block and booth level have expressed their eagerness to attend it,” he said.

He said that the Congress chief is coming to show the way on how to defeat the BJD government, which is neck-deep in corruption with its 24-year rule in the state having witnessed mining, land and chit fund scams. “People are grappling with spiralling prices of essential commodities. While 52% of the population of the state is still poor, there are more than 10 lakh registered unemployed youths even as over 2 lakh posts are lying vacant in the government,” he said.

He added that the party worker are enthused by the proposed visit of the Congress president, a common man who rose to a leadership position because of his sheer hard work and willpower.

This will be Kharge first visit to Odisha after taking over as the Congress chief in 2022.

Pattnayak further said that national Congress president will also meet senior party leaders and discuss the route of the Odisha leg of Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra of Rahul Gandhi, which is likely to enter the state on February 14, and preparations for the same.
