Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress has constituted a six-member fact-finding committee to probe the alleged abduction and gang rape of a minor girl student of Kendrapada district.
The panel, formed by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak, is headed by senior leader and former Minister Panchanan Kanungo, a senior party leader said.
The committee includes PCC media cell chairman Ganeswar Behera, party’s Kendrapada district president Anshuman Mohanty, Ratikant Kanungo, Jayashree Patra and Gitanjali Mohanty, he said.
The fact-finding panel has been asked to submit a detailed report after conducting thorough examination of the alleged gang rape incident involving a student of a college located in Garadpur area of the coastal district.
The Congress move comes a day after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday targeted two Odisha Ministers over the incident accusing them of shielding the accused.
Stating that a fact-finding team of the state unit had conducted a probe into the incident, BJP leaders said the party will soon move the National Commission for Women (NCW) on the issue.
