Bhubaneswar: A swarm of bees created panic during a protest by workers of the student and youth wings of Odisha Congress outside the residence of senior IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
Sources said workers of Odisha Chhatra Congress and Yuva Congress were staging a demonstration demanding action against Sethi in connection with the Rs 10 lakh bribery case.
However, the protesters were forced to run away from the spot in panic following the bee attack. Even police personnel had to duck and flee from the spot in fear. Some journalists were found reporting the event by ducking on the ground.
The protestors were seen lying down and running helter-skelter to save themselves from honey bee attack.
The bees attacked the protestors after somebody reportedly disturbed the hive in the nearby area.
However, the Congress workers returned to continue their protest again after the bee attack subsided. They shouted slogans demanding the arrest of Sethi.
Some of the protestors were detained by police as they tried to break into the official residence of Sethi by climbing and jumping the barricades.
Sethi is now the Principal Secretary to the state government’s Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department, ST & SC Development, Minorities, and Backward Classes Welfare Department.
Notably, the senior IAS officer was summoned by the CBI for investigation in a bribery case involving Rs 10 lakh transaction.
As per reports, the CBI has arrested three persons Aditya Dev Infratech Pvt Ltd owner Debadatta Mahapatra, Bridge and Roof Co. (India) Ltd’s Group General Manager Chanchal Mukherjee and Penta A Studio Private Ltd’s Director Santosh Moharana in connection with cash seizure from a car near a star hotel in Bhubaneswar on December 7.
