Odisha A Consistent Monsoon Performer: Skymet

Bhubaneswar: Independent weather forecast agency Skymet on Wednesday tweeted that Odisha has been a consistent monsoon performer though the entire state came under the influence of southwest monsoon late.

Though monsoon arrived on June 12, the whole of Odisha was covered only on June 27.

The agency attributed the delay to monsoon remaining stagnant for about two weeks before a proper onset over east India.

The month of June began on a deficient note but it started to perform the following month due to the systems forming over the Bay of Bengal. By July 15, rain deficient was 15 per cent. However, as heavy rain lashed the state between July 14 and 17, the deficiency dropped to -3 per cent in the next two days.

By July 21, the state recorded three per cent surplus rainfall. Thereafter, rainfall amount went up by a whopping 16 per cent surplus due to good showers before the fag end of July.

Though rain surplus was reduced to a mere one per cent once again, heavy showers in the last two days back pushed it up to three per cent, it added.
