Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience hot and humid weather conditions for the next 2 to 3 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
Heatwave warning has been sounded for several north and western districts for 2 days:
Till 8.30 am on April 19
Heatwave conditions may prevail at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir. Some places in Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam are also likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershower.
8.30 am on April 19 to 8.30 am on April 20
Heatwave conditions may continue at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Boudh. There is a forecast for light to moderate rain or thunderstorm at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahahdi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kandhamal and Gajapati during this period.
The mercury is likely hover around 40 degree Celsius and more and remain 2-3 degrees above normal at many places in the state during the next 2 to 3 days. There will be a gradual fall in the day temperature by 2-3 degree Celsius thereafter.
While the heatwave will abate thereafter, yellow alert for thunderstorm and lightning has been issued for several districts for the next 3 days. Some places in South Odisha will also experience rain till 8.30 am on April 20. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is likely across all districts in the state in the subsequent 24 hours, the IMD said in its midday bulletin.
Notably, Bhubaneswar was the hottest in the state at 40.4 degree Celsius by 11.30 am followed by Jharsuguda (40.2) and Keonjhar (39.2).
