Bhubaneswar: Amid a spike in fatalities during the third wave of COVID, Odisha on Tuesday confirmed 17 more deaths due to the deadly disease, taking the toll to 8629.

1. A 73 years old male of Angul district.
2. A 26 years old female of Balasore district.
3. A 67 years old female of Bhadrak district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension.
4. A 75 years old male of Cuttack district who was also suffering from Hypertension & Cerebro Vascular Accident.
5. A 85 years old male of Cuttack district who was also suffering from Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Chronic Kidney Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
8. A 3 Months years old male of Ganjam district who was also suffering from Acyanotc Congenital Heart Disease.
9. A 78 years old male of Jagatsinghpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Asthma, Hypertension.
10. A 18 years old male of Jajpur district who was also suffering from HIV +ve, Encephalitis.
11. A 26 years old female of Kendrapara district.
12. A 57 years old Male of Khurda district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & Chronic Kidney Disease.
13. A 55 years old Male of Khurda district who was also suffering from Cerebro Vascular Accident & Hypertension.
14. A 3 months years old female of Malkangiri district.
15. A 55 years old male of Puri district who was also suffering from Cerebro Vascular Accident, Hypertension.
16. A 58 years old female of Puri district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Chronic Kidney Disease, Dilated Cardiomyopathy.
17. A 40 years old male of Rayagada District who was also suffering from Severe Anemia, Diabetes Mellitus.
Notably, the state confirmed fatalities in single digits till Thursday (January 27) and none the following day. Ten deaths were reported on January 28 and another 15 on January 29. The COVID tally was highest in five months on January 30 when 19 deaths were confirmed after an audit. Odisha saw 18 more deaths due to the deadly disease on Monday (January 31).
Odisha had reported a total of 147 COVID deaths in January. There were 56 casualties in December. As many as 80 COVID deaths were confirmed in November, 134 in October and 346 in September. Similarly, 2,056 fatalities were registered in August, while July saw 1,903 deaths, June 1,272 and May 737, said sources in the Health Department.
