Odisha Cop Arrested Over Seizure Of Rs 2.8 Lakh Unaccounted Cash

Bhubaneswar: After simultaneous raids on his house at Phulanakhara and in-laws’ place in Cuttack, the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Division arrested Malkangiri’s Motu police station IIC Sushant Sahu and forwarded him to Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, on Thursday.

Raids were also conducted in Motu.

On Wednesday, the vigilance sleuths had intercepted his car near Khurda while he was on the way to Phulanakhara. During the search, Rs 2.80 lakh unaccounted cash was recovered from his vehicle. The IIC failed to give a satisfactory explanation about the source of the money seized and was detained. He was then grilled for over 3 hours.

The IIC later said that he had taken the money as a loan for treatment of his father, who had suffered a brain stroke, sources said.

The Odisha vigilance tweeted: “A sale deed of Rs 25 lakh of a plot at Nakhara, purchased recently in the name of his wife, has been recovered during the house searches.”

He got the money from an illegal source, an official added.

It is being alleged that he had some links with the mining mafia.

Sahu had joined the Odisha police as an ASI in 2009. He was recently promoted and posted as IIC of Motu police station. He had earlier worked as a traffic sub-inspector in Cuttack.
