Cuttack: Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay on Saturday placed the IIC of Patana Police Station in Keonjhar district, Sandhyarani Jena under suspension for severely thrashing and kicking a youth inside the police station.
The DGP in a Tweet said that the woman IIC has been suspended for her misconduct.
The youth, Raju Mohanty of Prabhasarabha village in Saharpada block, had a land dispute with his paternal uncle. Raju had lodged a complaint at the Patana Police Station in this connection on March 25. However, the IIC called him to the police station recently and allegedly severely thrashed him with a stick and kicked with her shoes in the presence of two police officers.
Following the incident, Keonjhar SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra had directed the SDPO of Ghatagan to probe the incident and initiate action against the IIC.
Taking strong exception to the incident, the video of which went viral on social media, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on May 19 had directed the district SP and the Patana IIC to submit a detailed report within four weeks.
The Commission had also directed the Home Secretary and the DGP to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation to the youth by deducting the amount from the IIC’s salary.
