Sambalpur: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI), Dronacharya Sahu, was suspended on Wednesday after a video, in which he was seen thrashing a woman inside Rengali police station in Sambalpur district, went viral.
According to sources, the incident took place in September last year during the Ganesh idol immersion. Police had allegedly picked up the woman, who lives in a nearby slum, on the pretext of dropping her home. However, they took her to the police station and the woman enquired as to why she was brought here, the ASI allegedly thrashed her.
Someone recorded the incident on his mobile phone and it later did the rounds on social media, the sources added.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
