Nuapada: Police have seized a huge cache of cough syrup estimated to be worth Rs 7 lakh from two vehicles in Nuapada district. They also arrested five persons in this regard on Thursday.
The accused were identified as Netrananda Sahu, Sunday Putel, Naresh Kumar Ahir, Goura Ghibala and Rajib Nag.
According to police, they intercepted a pick up van (OD 03-J-7845) and a sedan (OD-23-H-3366) near a railway level crossing after receiving a tip off that the vehicles were involved in smuggling of cough syrup. The vehicles were coming from Bargarh and going towards Komna via Nuapada when they were intercepted.
During the search of the vehicles, police seized 5,920 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup.
Along with the two vehicles and the contraband, police have also seized a pistol with bullets, Rs 6,000 in cash and six mobile phones from the possession of the five accused.
