Odisha Couple Held For Using Fake Email IDs Of Hospital Staff To Get RTI Information



Cuttack: A man and his wife were arrested by the Cyber Police in Cuttack for allegedly creating fake email IDs in the names of doctors, and other employees of an Urban Community Health Centre (UCHC) to obtain information through the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

d have been identified as Lakshmidhar Biswal and his wife Sonali Nayak. While Sonali is employed at the UCHC at CDA Sector-7 of the city, Lakshmidhar is an RTI activist.

Police sources said the couple were accused of creating fake accounts using the names and photographs of the hospital employees. The used this fraudulent method with an aim to collect information through RTI applications.

However, the alleged fraud came to light after hospital staff came to know about the misuse of their identities. Subsequently, a complaint was lodged with the Cuttack Cyber Police Station.

Acting on the complaint, a police team conducted a raid in the Astaranga area on Tuesday. During questioning, the couple admitted to creating fake email IDs.

Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the matter to determine the extent of the alleged fraud and whether any other individuals were involved.
