Bhubaneswar: The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar on Friday convicted former managing director of Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) Vinod Kumar and two others in the housing scam and sentenced them to life imprisonment for 3 years.
The other two persons who were sentenced by the court are Purna Chandra Das, former executive director (Technical) and Pradeep Kumar Rout, former accounts officer of ORHDC.
The court ordered each of them to pay fine of Rs 25,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months on each count for the offence under Section 13 (2) r/w 13(1)(d) PC Act, 1988/420/120-B IPC.
Another convict Ashok Kumar Nanda, secretary, VIKASH (NGO) was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and pay fine of Rs 25,000. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 2 months each for the offence under Section 420/120-B of IPC.
This is the ninth conviction involving corruption in ORHDC by Vinod Kumar and other officials by hatching criminal conspiracy with private persons.
