Odisha Crime Branch Deputes Officers For Probe Into FM College Student Death Case

Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch (CB) of Odisha Police on Wednesday deputed officers for investigation into the death of a student of Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore after a self-immolation bid, which has led to a political unrest in the state.

Director General of Police (CID-CB) Vinaytosh Mishra has deputed CAW&CW Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Iman Kalyan Nayak to take up the probe from Sahadevkhunta police. “For this purpose, DSP, Iman Kalyan Nayak of CAW & CW, Bhubaneswar, will have the powers to function as officer-in-charge of Sahadevkhunta police station for the purpose of investigation of this case in accordance with Rule 431(C) of Odisha Police Manual Rules,” the CB said in a statement.

Inspector Panchali Rout will assist Nayak in the investigation, it added.

This has come a day ahead of Congress’ call for Odisha Bandh. The Opposition parities, including BJD and Congress, have demanded a judicial probe into the death of the 20-year-old student, who took the extreme step over alleged sexual harassment and institutional neglect. They are also seeking the resignation of the Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister, who they alleged failed to respond to the hapless girl’s July 1 post on X.
