Bhubaneswar: A state delegation, touring the USA, has laid the foundation for a grand Jagannath Temple at Silicon Valley, a government statement said on Monday.
The team led by Electronics and IT Minister Tushar Kanti Behera is in the US to join the Odia diaspora in their endeavour to strengthen the socio-economic and cultural ties between America and Odisha. Development Commissioner Anu Garg, 5T SecretaryV K Pandian and IT Secretary Manoj Mishra attended the event.
The Odisha delegation offered prayers at the existing Sri Jagannath Temple at Silicon Valley and later went to another site, where the foundation was laid for a new grand Sri Jagannath Temple Complex and Cultural Centre on a sprawling 9-acre land.
The complex and the cultural centre will help the Odia diaspora connect with Odisha better, the government said.
To mark the occasion, the minister and senior officers planted trees at the new site.
