Mumbai/Bhubaneswar: The second edition of Navi Mumbai Fashion Week saw Odisha designer and Big Boss Season 11 participant Sabyasachi Satpathy showcase the rich traditional and tribal handloom of Odisha.
Fifteen models draped in his designs aptly titled, ‘Keembdanti’, sashayed down the ramp to loud cheers and claps from the audience.
Arshi Khan of Big Boss 11 fame and former Grasims Mr India Sachin Khurana were the showstoppers.
‘Fashion for a Cause’ was the theme of the show choreographed by Aaditya Kotwal.
“I wish to revive the dying fabrics of Odisha and highlight them on a bigger platform. Fortunately, my designs were in sync with the theme of the fashion show. Odisha handloom like Berhampuri silk are not as popular as Sambalpuri and these need to be revived,” said Sabyasachi aka Shagoon, who earlier hosted a popular cookery show in a regional channel.
The male models in kurtas and females draped in sarees grabbed eyeballs.
Sabyasachi, however, rued lack of support from the Odisha government. “I could not participate in the prestigious Bombay Times Fashion Week as I did not get sponsorship from Odisha Tourism,” said the multi- talented designer, who has also proved his mettle in interior designing.
“I would soon be hosting another cookery show,” he confirmed before signing off.
