Bhubaneswar: The Director General of Odisha Police Abhay on Sunday met the family members of five martyrs during his visit to Rayagada district on the day.
The DGP is on a tour of different police posts in Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada districts, along with Director Intelligence and IG Operations.
In Rayagada Abhay inaugurated DIOC building, reviewed Left Wing Extremist and crime scenario of the district.
The DGP also interacted with senior officers of BSF, CRPF, OSAP and Rayagada district.
Earlier, in the day during a visit to Malkangiri, the bonhomie between Odisha Police and the villagers of Maoist-infested areas was visible.
During his visit to the hostile terrains of Bonda Ghati, the DGP was accorded a warm welcome by the tribals, who were dressed in their traditional attire.
The tribals at Muduliparha company operating base (COB) also welcomed the Odisha DGP with open arms.
Reminiscing his days as SP of the district way back in 1992, Abhay expressed immense pleasure about visiting the area after decades. The DGP distributed clothes, sports materials and other useful articles among the villagers. He also interacted with the BSF jawans and villagers.
At Andrahal COB in Bonda Hills the DGP reiterated his appeal to the Maoists to surrender. He also said that the ongoing developmental works in Malkangiri district will be further expedited.
The Border Security Force (BSF) with the help of Odisha Police had set up its first company operating base (COB) at Andrahal in Mudulipada area where the Bonda tribe lives in January this year.
Andrahal is seen as one of the worst Left Wing Extremism affected regions of the State.
