Bargarh: With the campaigning for the Bijepur Assembly by-election on October 21 kicking off on Wednesday, Director General of Police (DGP) BK Sharma held a high-level meeting at the district police headquarters here.
Among others, DIG (Northern Range), DIG (Intelligence), IG (Intelligence), ADG (Law and Order) and DIG, CRPF attended the meeting.
After the meeting, the DGP said police will maintain neutrality during the Bijepur by-election as per the directive of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
On security measures, Sharma said the the Bargarh SP had recommended the deployment of 30 platoons of armed police force and the state police was reviewing the suggestion.
“Apart from the deployment of Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP), four platoons of CRPF and three platoons of Special Security (SS) Battalion, Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel will also be deployed during the by-election. Besides, CCTV cameras will be installed in 15 sensitive locations,” he said.
The DGP further said police have started nabbing criminals and mischief mongers ahead of the by-polls.
