Boudh: The Additional District Judge, Boudh, has sentenced man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a mentally disabled minor girl.
The accused, Ganesh Pradhan, was found guilty under Section 10 of POCSO Act and Section 332 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
According to the case details, the incident occurred on March 7, 2024, when the parents of the victi
m were away from home. Taking advantage of their absence, Pradhan, a resident of Gudapada village in Boudh district, entered their house and raped the mentally challenged minor girl. A case was registered at Boudh police station on March 12, 2024.
Police promptly filed the charge sheet in court. The swift and thorough investigation, coupled with strong evidence presented by the prosecution, led to the conviction and sentencing, a police release said.
Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania has congratulated the Boudh SP and the investigating officer for their commendable work. He expressed satisfaction that, since the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita came into force, the rate of swift investigations and convictions in such sensitive cases has increased significantly.
