New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha, Rajendra Prasad Sharma, was conferred with the ‘Police Excellence Award’ by the Foundation Police Research, New Delhi, for his exceptional services to public and for protecting their rights for a better civil society in Odisha.
Sharma was felicitated during the International Police Expo and Conference at Pragati Maidan in the national capital on Thursday evening.
The 1986 batch IPS officer received the award from Union Minister of State of Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel.
Sharma is the only Odisha cadre IPS officer to have been felicitated with this prestigious award.
Talking to mediapersons after receiving the award, he said the award belongs to the people of Odisha who have given him so much respect, recognition and affection.
Notably, Sharma was appointed as the DGP of Odisha in August last year replacing Kunwar Brajesh Singh.
A native of Rajasthan’s Ajmer district, Sharma is a doctor by qualification and holds a degree in Law.
He began his career as an ASP (under training) at Police Training College in Angul and Bhubaneswar before being posted as SDPO, Rayagada.
He was the SP of Kalahandi, Berhampur, Dhenkanal and Balasore. He had also served as the DIG, Crime Branch and Central Range.
Prior to taking charge as the DGP, Sharma was the Director, State Vigilance.
