Bhubaneswar: Concerned over the assault by the people on some persons in some parts Odisha, mostly in the south Odisha districts suspecting them to be the child lifters, Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma on Sunday urged the people not to get carried away by the rumour of child lifting racket.
“This is absolutely a rumour. Someone might have spread the message on the social media to create panic among the people. The state police have not received any report on operating of child lifting gangs,” Sharma told reporters here.
He said the Superintendents of Police have been asked to give a clarification to the people if there is such rumour and take the necessary steps to refrain them from taking law into their own hands.
The DGP also urged the people to report to the police if they notice suspicious movement of persons not belonging to their locality.
While the incident of mob attacks was earlier reported from Rayagada district, similar incidents were reported from Berhampur, Khallikote and Nayagarh on Sunday.
