Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended in-charge district welfare officer (DWO), Jajpur, Subrat Kumar Kanungo while allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 bribe.
Kunumgo, who is also posted as senior revenue assistant in office of District Information & Public Relations Officer (DIPRO), had allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 from a victim of atrocity under SC/ST Act for facilitating release of Rs 75,000 compensation amount. He was caught while receiving the second and final instalment of Rs 10,000.
The entire bribe money was recovered from him and seized. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are on at two locations linked to Kanungo to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, a Vigilance release said.
A case under section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered and further investigation is underway, it added.
