Malkangiri: Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested Dr Panu Charan Mandal, Medical Officer of Padia Community Health Centre (CHC) in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, in connection with an alleged corruption case.
According to sources, he had demanded bribe for passing a bill of a vehicle engaged by the CHC.
His arrest comes a month after block programme manager Srimant Atibudhhi was arrested for allegedly accepting Rs 20,000 bribe from the vehicle owner – Rakesh Chandra Das – on behalf of the doctor.
While Atibudhhi was nabbed red-handed, Mandal pleaded innocence and had managed to avail bail.
Das had provided an SUV to the hospital.
However, the investigation continued and the anti-corruption sleuths arrested the doctor for his involvement in the matter in accordance with the Vigilance Court’s order.
