Berhampur: In another example of medical fraternity’s dedication to the fight against COVID-19, a doctor returned to his duty despite losing a family member in the city.
Dr Nihar Ranjan Sahu, Assistant Professor, MKCG Medical College and Hospital, here was bereaved after his father Nishakar Sahu passed away. But he came back to do his COVID duty in less than 24 hours of the tragedy.
Ganjam collector Vijay Amrit Kulange praised Dr Sahu for his high professional commitment and responsibility during such an alarming situation when Ganjam administration is fighting against the second wave of COVID-19.
In a tweet, the collector said, “We appreciate the commitment of Dr Nihar Ranjan Sahu for having joined back in Covid duty within a day after the demise of his father.”
Dr Sunil Kota, who had administered the first COVID vaccine in Ganjam, said, “We are proud of Dr Sahu as he is an inspiration.”
In a similar instance, Dr Mukund Penurkar of Pune’s Sanjeevan Hospital lost his father to the deadly virus, while his mother and brother also got infected at the same time. But he was back to the COVID ward after a day’s break.
