Brahmapur: Eminent pulmonologist and academician Prof Dr Narayan Mishra of Odisha has been conferred the prestigious Shivpuri Memorial Oration Award by the Indian College of Allergy, Asthma and Applied Immunology (ICAAI).
The award was presented at ICAAI’s national conference in Indore on September 25.
Dr Mishra delivered the award oration on “Post-COVID Lung: When Hyperresponsiveness Outlives the Virus” before more than 500 scientists and medical professionals from across the country.
A pulmonologist of national repute, Prof Mishra has served as president of both the Indian Chest Society and the National College of Chest Physicians of India. He has also been conferred the status of Professor Emeritus by the Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) and is currently an International Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
With significant contributions to respiratory medicine, Prof Mishra has received two international awards and more than 100 national honours for his academic, professional and social contributions.
His work extends beyond clinical and academic pursuits to public-health advocacy. Over the past 32 years, he has conducted more than 670 anti-tobacco awareness workshops for teenagers across four states, besides spearheading awareness campaigns on tuberculosis, asthma, COPD and COVID-19. A World Cancer Day rally organised by him in 2009, involving nearly 10,000 students, was recorded in the Limca Book of Records.
Prof Mishra has also contributed to community welfare, including initiatives supporting government primary schools with libraries, furniture and safe drinking-water facilities.
The latest honour recognises his longstanding contributions to respiratory medicine, medical education, public-health awareness and community service, adding another distinction to his career.
