Angul: Senior doctor Biswanath Rout, who was working at the district headquarters hospital in Boudh, succumbed to COVID-19 infection late on Friday night at a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Rout had tested positive for the virus during his duty and later developed lung infection last month. As his condition became critical, he was airlifted to Hyderabad for better treatment but all efforts went in vain.
His body arrived at his native Chalagarh village in Talcher area of Angul district on Saturday afternoon where he was cremated with the guard of honour in presence of the district collector, sub-collector and health officials.
