Sambalpur: The doctor behind ‘One Rupee’ clinic in Odisha, has extended his services to include medicines for the needy patients who come to him for consultation.
Here we are talking about Shankar Ramchandani, an assistant professor in the department of medicine at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla. He launched the ‘One Rupee’ medicine on Saturday to mark the first anniversary of his facility.
Now, he also distributes medicines to his patients at Re 1. While he had started the clinic on February 12 last year to fulfil the dream of his late father, Brahmananda Ramchandani, he has named the new initiative after his mother, Lajbanti.
These two services are also a part of his longstanding desire to provide free treatment to the poor and underprivileged, who do not have access to proper medical care, beyond duty hours.
The clinic, which has been set up at the Kachha Market area in Burla town remain open from 7 am to 8 am and 6 pm to 7 pm.
