Nimapada: The Court of Nimapada Judicial Magistrate of the First Class (JMFC) sentenced an obstetrician and gynaecologist to two years of imprisonment for illegal sex determination and abortion on Friday.
A fine of Rs 7,000 was slapped by the court on Dr Bachaspati Dash for the offence.
According to sources, Dr Dash had the state Health Department licence for conducting ultrasound at his clinic ‘Family Health Research Centre’ at Jayashree Chhak here.
However, the doctor had been accused of conducting sex determination and abortion of expectant mothers at his clinic.
Back in 2004, the then Puri Sub-Collector Udhav Charan Majhi and the CDMO had raided his clinic and seized all medical equipment. A case in this connection was also registered. The court pronounced the verdict on Friday.
