Odisha Doctor Revives Passenger Midair In Lucknow-Bound Flight

Bhubaneswar: An Odisha doctor rushed to the aid of an unconscious passenger and revived him aboard a Bengaluru-Lucknow flight a week ago, drawing praise from co-passengers and the in-flight crew.

Prof Prakash Kumar Sahoo, head of the department of Surgery at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, run by the SOA (Deemed to be University), was flying to Lucknow to attend a conference aboard Indigo flight 6E-163 when the mid-air emergency arose.

An elderly passenger had taken a bite of a sandwich when he developed a violent cough and lost consciousness causing his wife to cry for help. At this, Sahoo rushed to his aid and tried to revive him employing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and fast-aid measures. The passenger was also put on oxygen.

It took several minutes before the passenger regained his consciousness to the utter relief of his wife and other co-passengers.

The doctor’s act drew profuse appreciation from the cabin crew. “Thank you for your immediate and genuine help. We couldn’t have done it without you!“ the crew members said in a note sent to the doctor.
