Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), a public transit agency in Odisha, on Friday said it has terminated a driver and a conductor after they were found to be under the influence of alcohol while on duty in serious violation of safety protocols.
During a random checking by enforcement team, both of them were found to be intoxicated while on duty.
Two more were suspended for a period of two months for indiscipline during duty hours, CRUT said in a statement.
This breach of conduct not only compromises passenger safety but also violates the core values of CRUT, which prioritizes safe, reliable, and efficient public transportation, it said.
CRUT has recommended suspension of driving license of the driver found under the influence of alcohol for a period 6 months. The safety and well-being of our passengers are our utmost priority, and any action that jeopardizes the safety will not be tolerated.
CRUT is implementing additional measures to further strengthen safety protocols and ensure that such incidents do not recur. These includes more stringent random alcohol testing for crew, enhanced driver training programs, behavioural training for crew and increased monitoring of operational procedures.
It may be noted that CRUT) is a public transit agency committed to providing sustainable mobility options to the residents and visitors of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Khurda, Pipili, Puri, Konark, Rourkela, Sambalpur & Berhampur. Over the years, CRUT expanded its Mo Bus services to make public transport accessible to all.
