Odisha Economist Baidyanath Mishra No More

Bhubaneswar: Renowned economist Baidyanath Mishra passed away at Saheed Nagar residence here late on Tuesday. He was 99.

Mishra has contributed immensely for social development in Odisha. In 1949, he joined Ravenshaw University as a lecturer and later worked at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT). Between 1981 to 1985, Mishra served as vice-chancellor at OUAT. He was the chairman of State Planning Board from 1985 to 1990.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan condoled the death of the economist.

“Deeply saddened by the demise of eminent educationist and economist, Baidyanath Mishra. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace,” tweeted CM Naveen.


The Union Minister also expressed grief over his death and tweeted: “His contribution to the social development in Odisha is incomparable. I express my condolences to the family. May his soul rest in peace.”
