Bhubaneswar: In view of elections to Urban Local Bodies, all educational institutions in Khurda district will remain closed for 2 days from March 23, district collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra informed on Wednesday.
Over 40.55 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in the 106 ULBs and three Municipal Corporations, which will go to poll on March 24, after a delay of almost three years.
Polling will be held from 8 am to 5 pm while counting of votes will take place on March 26.
A total of 6,411 candidates – 569 candidates for the post of chairperson and mayor, 5,842 candidates for councillor and corporator seats – are in the fray for the election.
According to State Election Commission, 195 platoons of police force (1 platoon comprise 30 personnel) and 22,000 polling personnel will be deployed. While 30 platoons will be deployed for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), 20 for Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and 10 for Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), 109 of 300 mobile parties will be deployed in the three municipal corporations.
