Bhubaneswar: BJD on Saturday moved the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha alleging Puri BJP MLA candidate Jayant Sarangi distributed money to voters only a few hours before voting on Saturday.
In a memorandum submitted to the CEO, BJD leaders alleged that BJP workers also distributed cash to people at Seegarh Gram Panchayat under Pallahara Assembly constituency.
The senior leaders also submitted video footage of Sarangi distributing money to the residents of Penthakata in Puri at 3 am on Saturday. They said BJD workers had also tried to stop him from distributing money in violation of model code of conduct.
Distribution of money creates an uneven playing field and erodes public trust in the democratic system, BJD said and urged the CEO to take swift action.
