Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday moved Odisha’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) accusing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prashant Jagdev of indulging in violence and threatening people ahead of the twin elections in the state.

A delegation of BJD visited the office of the CEO in Bhubaneswar and submitted a petition alleging that Jagdev and his supporters tried to forcefully attend a rally organised by an organisation at Tangi in Khurda district on Wednesday.

When the organisers opposed their move, Jagdev and his supporters entered into altercation and threatened them, BJD claimed, and demanded action against the Chilika MLA for the aggressive action.

Accusing Jagdev of being involved in a series of criminal activities and violent incidents, the ruling BJD said swift action should be taken to address these alarming occurrences which pose a threat to the democratic fabric of the country.

“If Prashant Jagdev is allowed to continue his political activities unchecked, it is inevitable that he will further disrupt the law and order situation in Khurda district. His persistent involvement in criminal activities undermines the principles of democracy enshrined in the constitutionof India and erodes public trust in the electoral process,” BJD said in its petition.

“Therefore, we urge you to take strict action against Prashant Jagdev to ensure that he is held accountable for his actions,” it said.
