Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed in Osara under Dharmasala police station of Odisha’s Jajpur district as an SUV drove into an election rally of BJD MLA Pranab Balabantray leading his supporters to ransack a market complex in the area.

According to sources, Balabantray, who is the BJD candidate for Dharmasala, was taking out a bike rally along with his supporters in his constituency as part of election campaign. As the rally was crossing Osara village around noon, the SUV of former sarpanch Dilip Behera ran into the bikers.

Some BJD workers were injured and their bikes damaged in the incident. It sparked off tension as the BJD workers reportedly went on a rampage and vandalised the market complex owned by Behera at Mandia Chhak. They also damaged his SUV.

However, the situation was brought under control as police rushed to the spot. Jajpur SP Vinit Agrawal also went to the village to take stock of the situation and additional forces were deployed there.

The SP said three to four people were injured as the SUV ran into the crowd. The police would investigate into the matter and the those found responsible would face legal action, he added.

Neither BJD nor Balabantray has issued any comment on the incident.
