Sundargarh: A special squad on Friday caught a BJP leader while allegedly distributing cash for votes at Kainsara village under Bhasma police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh.
The arrested has been identified as Bhimasen Nayak, the party’s Zilla Parishad candidate in the 2022 panchayat elections.
The special squad caught Nayak along with one Kruspasindhu Dubey while allegedly distributing cash for the party’s Sundargarh MLA candidate Kusum Tete. A notepad, an envelope and Rs 2.42 lakh were also seized from them, sources said.
In another incident, a flying squad seized Rs 85,000 cash from one Nayrayan Behera of Akhuapada in Odisha’s Jeypore. The seized money was deposited in the government treasury as Behera could not give a satisfactory account of the cash, Flying Team Squad Team Magistrate Paresh Panda told the media.
