Puri: BJP Lok Sabha candidate Sambit Patra on Saturday urged the administration and Election Commission of India (ECI) to extend the voting time in polling booths where polling had stopped for some time due to error in the electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Patra who voted from his constituency Puri said he and many other voters had to wait for 90 minutes as the EVM machine did not function. They voted after the error was fixed.
“Many people could not wait and returned without voting. So I have requested the returning officer am also requesting the Election Commission and district administration to extend the voting time to enable people to vote,” he told media.
According to sources, EVMs in many booths of Puri did not function for some time and so voting which was supposed to start at 7 am got delayed by one to two hours.
The BJP leader sought an extension in time in those booths and also appealed the District Collector to make an announcement in this regard at the earliest possible.
