Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to announce party candidates for the remaining three Lok Sabha seats and around 100 Assembly constituencies for the upcoming elections in Odisha.
BJP has announced its candidates for 18 of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state, while no list has so far been released for 147 Assembly constituencies. While BJD has announced party candidates for 15 Lok Sabha and 72 Assembly seats, Congress is yet to release any list of party nominees.
With the twin elections fast approaching, BJP is likely to come out with fresh list of candidates for Odisha. State party chief Manmohan Samal has left for New Delhi to hold discussion with central leaders on finalisation of party candidates for Odisha. He is accompanied by state party’s organising general secretary Manas Mohanty.
Both the leaders are holding discussion with the party’s top brass on selection of candidates for Assembly as well as Cuttack, Jajpur and Kandhamal Lok Sabha seats. The central election committee (CEC) of BJP is slated to hold a crucial meeting for final approval of candidates’ list for Odisha.
Apart from the rest three Lok Sabha seats, BJP is expected to announce its candidates for around 100 Assembly constituencies, said senior BJP leader Prithviraj Harichandan.
The list has already been prepared after thorough discussion and scrutiny and it will be taken up by the CEC at its meeting. After the CEC puts its stamp of approval, the list will be released very soon, in a day or two, he said.
Stating that party candidates are being selected on the basis of thorough analysis of survey reports, he said winning potential is the most important yardstick for picking up nominees.
