Bhubaneswar: A woman on oxygen support voted in a booth of Odisha’s Bhubaneswar while a 97-year-old in Puri protested by lying down inside the polling booth on not finding his name in the voters’ list.
According to sources, the elderly man expressed resentment on not finding his name on the voters’ list and lay down on the floor of Booth number 56 at Bholanath Bidyapeeth in Puri. The nonagenarian said he had voted in the last elections and alleged he was being deprived of his democratic rights.
In another incident in Bhubaneswar, a woman on oxygen support voted at the polling booth in Raj Bhawan UP School. She was seen being supported by her elderly husband and a help who carried the oxygen concentrator for her.
“I am having trouble breathing but voting is my duty and so I have come. We should all vote,” she told media. Her husband said people let them move ahead in the queue and the voting process went smoothly.
“We were excited since yesterday and had decided we will vote early in the morning. Ours is the largest democracy and we must elect our leaders in the state and country,” he said.
