Sonepur: In another case of illegal transport of money, police have seized more than Rs 3 lakh from a car during pre-election checking in Odisha’s Subarnapur district.
According to sources, a team of Binka police station in the district along with additional tehsildar of Binka Dayaram Meher was engaged in checking the vehicles as part of the exercise to prevent illegal transport of cash, liquor, drugs and prohibited substances in Binka town on Saturday night.
The team intercepted am SUV at Gania square in the town driven by Kuber Pera of Seledi village under the same police station and another person. On checking, the team found Rs 3.40 lakh from inside the vehicle. As Pera could not produce any document in support of the money nor given satisfactory answer for carrying it, the police seized the entire amount and the vehicle.
The money would be deposited in the district treasury and returned to the rightful owner after valid documents are produced with the authorities, said IIC of Binka police station Sarangadhar Panigrahy. The two persons travelling in the SUV have also been detained, he added.
It may be noted that a police team had seized Rs 1.95 lakh from a motorcycle dickey in Binka town on April 30. Earlier, the police had seized more than Rs 55 lakh from a car during checking at Binka College square on April 6. Similarly, the police had seized Rs 3.5 lakh from a car in Khetrajpur of Sambalpur district.
