Dhenkanal: A polling agent reportedly died during voting at a booth in Hindol area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Saturday.
Sources said polling was underway during the third phase of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections when the incident took place. The polling agent suddenly fell unconscious.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital at Hindol where the doctors declared him dead.
The deceased has been identified as Sukadev Patnaik from Bahalunda area.
While it is suspected that Patnaik might have died due to heat, the exact reason can be ascertained only after post mortem.
In another incident, an elderly woman voter died while she had gone to exercise her franchise at a booth in Nayagarh.
The deceased has been identified as Kumuduni Dalei (65) of Patharpunji village.
According to sources, the woman complained of discomfort and fell unconscious while she was standing in queue at the polling booth. She was immediately taken to a hospital at Khandapada where doctors declared her dead.
