Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit the tribal-majority Rayagada district in Odisha on Friday to address his second public meeting in the state ahead of Lok Sabha and state assembly polls.
Senior party leaders said that Rahul is scheduled to arrive at Rayagada around 12 noon. Soon after arrival, the senior leader will proceed to the meeting venue near GIACR College at Rayagada to address the ‘Nyaya Rally’.
Rahul is slated to address the election meeting between 12.10 pm and 13.30 pm, said senior Congress leader Biswaranjan Mohanty.
Rahul is likely to speak on tribal and OBC-related issues at the poll meeting. He is expected to target both Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), sources said. The Congress leader will address the mega rally to be attended by 1 lakh locals and party workers.
Rayagda Assembly segment comes under Koraput Lok Sabha seat where sitting MP Saptagiri Ulaka is contesting as Congress candidate. Rahul will also attend a party workers’ meeting to encourage them and boost their confidence for the campaign ahead, sources said.
It will be Rahul’s second visit to the state in connection with elections. He had had kick-started Congress campaign for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections at Salepur in Cuttack district on Sunday.
Addressing the public meeting in Salepur, the Congress leader had claimed that though BJD and BJP are fighting the electoral battle against each other, in reality, they were working together.
