Bhubaneswar: A day after quitting Biju Janata Dal (BJD), social activist Linkan Subudhi and Sandhyabati Pradhan, former chairperson of Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR), joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.
The two leaders joined BJP along with their supporters at the state party headquarters in Bhubaneswar in the presence of senior leaders ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha.
Apart from state BJP president Manmohan Samal, party’s election in-charge for Odisha Vijaypal Singh Tomar BJP national spokesperson and Puri Lok Sabha candidate Sambit Patra welcomed the leaders at a special programme.
The BJP leaders said that the entry of Linkan and Pradhan along with a large number of supporters will further strengthen the party and brighten its electoral prospects in the state.
While resigning from BJD, Linkan had alleged continuous neglect in the ruling party where women empowerment is only a slogan. “Women is just use and throw object and women get less respect & dignity ( Naari Swabhiman and Sanman) in the party nowadays,” she added.
Pradhan, on the other hand, said that it had become difficult to reach out to the BJD president, Naveen Patnaik, for suggestions and advice. Pradhan said she decided to quit the party as she was disillusioned with the present state of affairs in BJD.
