Odisha Elections 2024: School Teacher Dies While Collecting Poll Materials In Balangir

Balangir: A school teacher reportedly died while he was on election duty in Odisha’s Balangir district on Sunday.

According to sources, Sushil Kumar Acharya, a teacher of primary school at Patuapalli under Agalur block of the district was deputed on election duty to Titlagarh. Sushil along with other polling officials had gone to DAV College at Titlagarh to collect electronic voting machines (EVMs) and other election materials.

At the time, Sushil felt stabbing pain in his chest and the polling officials rushed him to the community health centre (CHC) in the town. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Bhima Bhopi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir. But the doctors in the hospital declared him brought dead.

The family members of Sushil who live in Bakati village under Titlagarh block have been informed. The police, who seized the body from the hospital, would hand it over to them after post-mortem, the sources said.

The elections to Balangir Lok Sabha constituency which is reserved under the ST category and seven Assembly seats under it including Birmaharajpur (SC), Sonepur, Loisingha (SC), Patnagarh, Balangir, Titlagarh and Kantabanji will be held on Monday.
