Bhubaneswar: Unfazed by a fresh notice slapped by Congress over his reported campaign for his son and BJD candidate for Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat, veteran leader and party MLA Suresh Routray claimed that he has not sought votes for any other political outfit.
Congress reportedly issued a fresh notice to the Jatani legislator after it was alleged that he was campaigning for his son Manmath Routray, who has been fielded by the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Bhubaneswar Parliamentary constituency for the upcoming polls. As per reports, he was asked to explain as to how he was canvassing for the candidate of another political party despite being in Congress.
Claiming that he has not campaigned for any other political party, the firebrand leader said he has never attended any election rally or meeting of other political parties.
Though his younger son Manmath is a candidate in Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat, he has not attended any of his campaign programme in the constituency, said Routray. “I have not campaigned for any other political party and I will never do so. I have been a Congressman and will continue to remain in the party till I breath my last,” said the senior legislator.
Stating that he has been attending different programmes in the constituency for the last 50 years, Routray said he never made any political speech in these events.
“However, if someone asks whether he or she should vote for mu son, my answer will be yes … but I will never campaign for BJD or its candidate,” he said, adding that he is ready to accept any action by the party.
