Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) heavyweight and party organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das encountered a major setback as counting of votes for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha were in progress on Tuesday.
While Das, popularly known as Bobby, had moved away from his home turf in Jajpur to contest from Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituency, his mother Sandhyarani Das was in the fray in Korei Assembly seat as BJD candidate.
The BJD stalwart was way behind Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has established an impressive lead in Sambalpur.
His mother Sandhyarani, who was in the race to protect the BJD fort in Korei in Jajpur, was trailing BJP’s Akash Dasnayak by 3360 votes after eight rounds of counting.
In Sambalpur, Dharmendra has established a wide lead of more than one lakh votes over Bobby and was moving towards victory.
