Odisha Faces Unusual Heat: Puri Records Second-Highest October Temperature In 130 Years

Bhubaneswar: Several places in Odisha experienced unusually high temperatures during the month of October when weather conditions normally begin to turn pleasant.

According to data shared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), places such as Puri, Paradip and Bhubaneswar figured among the hottest places in the state.

The seaside town of Puri recorded a maximum temperature of 36.6°C on October 5. This is the all-time second highest October temperature for the temple town since meteorological records began in 1896.

The temperature recorded on October 5 surpassed the previous second-highest October temperature of 36.3°C, recorded on October 4, 2024.

The latest reading highlights an unusual rise in daytime temperatures in Puri during October. Weather data collected over nearly 130 years shows that the coastal town has rarely experienced such high temperatures during the month.

Similarly, the port town of Paradip registered 36.5°C, which stands as the all-time second highest maximum temperature for the month of October since 1969.

State capital Bhubaneswar also remained warm, with the mercury touching 35.8°C. This marks the all-time fifth highest October temperature recorded in the city since 1952.

The IMD observations indicate that early October, which marks a transition of weather conditions, is still proving hotter than usual across coastal and central parts of Odisha.
