Rayagada: In an incident that reflects the poor health infrastructure facilities in remote areas of the state, the family members had to carry the body of a man for 4 kilometres on a cot to reach a hospital for post-mortem.
The deceased is Babula Goud of Dudkabahal village under Tikiri police limits. According to reports, Goud was missing since May 4. After a missing complaint was filed in this regard at Tikiri police station, a search was launched and he was found dead in a forest on June 4.
After a scientific examination by forensic team, police said had to take the body for post-mortem to Koraput on its own arrangement. Instead, police asked the family members to arrange for transport to shift the body.
With no money to hire a vehicle, the poor family members had to carry the corpse on a cot for post-mortem. They had covered a distance of around four kilometres when police intervened and said that they will take the corpse for post-mortem.
