Bhubaneswar: Odisha fared poorly in Good Governance Index (GGI) launched by the Centre on Wednesday.
With the score of 4.4, the state ranked 14th in the list topped by Tamil Nadu with Maharashtra as close second among the ‘Big States’.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh said that the Index was scientifically designed based on various parameters of governance. The states were assessed on performance in 10 sectors — agriculture and allied sectors, commerce and industries, human resource development, public health, public infrastructure and utilities, economic governance, social welfare and development, judicial and public security, environment, and citizen-centric governance.
Among the big states, Odisha secured 5th position in environment and 6th in social welfare and development. It was placed 10th in agriculture and allied sectors, 13th rank in commerce and industries, 12th in Human Resource Development and 18th in public infrastructure. The state secured 16th position in public health.
