Odisha Farmer Shaves Off Head In Protest, Says ‘Govt Is Dead’

New Delhi: With farmers’ protesting at the Singhu border against three farm laws introduced by the Centre, a farmer from Odisha protested in a unique manner by shaving off his head and beard to register his dissent over the government’s new policies.

According to an IANS report, Parthasarthy Jena from Odisha, as a mark of protest, tonsured his head at Delhi’s Singhu Border. As per Indian traditions, people shave off the hair and beard in case of death of the head of a family.

“The government has turned deaf to our voices. It seems like they are dead and hence, I am shaving my head and beard,” Jena was quoted as saying by the agency.

The farmer also said that in order to send a strong message to the Centre, he did so and the protests would continue until the agricultural laws are taken back by the Centre.

Meanwhile, the farmer leaders’ day-long hunger strike ended with an “Ardaas” of Guru Nanak Dev at 5 pm on Monday.

While appealing the farmers’ leaders across other borders like Ghazipur to end their day-long hunger strike, they also prayed for the welfare of the all (Sarbanth Bhala) and for the success of their motive by singing Gurbani, the agency report said.
